Quote of the Week

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Life Never Goes As Planned, Trust Me Part 2

Now let’s skip a head to my first semester in college. It was a warm August Tuesday morning as I walked to my first and only class that day. It was only my second day of classes so I was still frightened by the enormity of the campus at BYU-Idaho. You have to realize that I graduated with a class of 60 or so people, so going to college was a BIG change for me. I was a quiet girl all through high school and I was determined to change that during college.

I was on my way to my IS 140 class at the Smith building. I remember thinking as I was walking to class... "Wow these buildings are huge. Will I ever feel like I know where I am going and what I am doing?" At the same time I was saying to myself, "Daaaang he is cute, oo oo oo and him too." Yes, I know what you are thinking "What about your vow?" I was determined to stay strong, but that wasn't about to stop me from looking!

Life Never Goes As Planned, Trust Me

Over the next six days I will be adding pieces of a personal experience of mine. At the end of the story I will have a very thought provoking post that sums up my point in telling the story. Bear with me please, it will be worth it, I promise. You need to know this about me before I can say what I have learned (development). You need to know where I am coming from (research)!

"Grandma, you really don't have to worry about me getting hitched early, I don't plan on dating in college. I plan on waiting until I get my masters degree. I just plan on rejecting the boys who do ask me out. They are a distraction I do not need." Yes, this is what I said to my Grandma and my family as I was preparing to leave for college. You may laugh at this and think, "Oh you naive little girl." I don't mind because I really was. I am not afraid to admit it!

The next day after high school graduation, I moved down to Colorado from South Dakota. I worked as a secretary for my grandparents' glass shop. My cousin Savanna was working for my grandparents as a secretary as well. We became close friends. I remember one time she told me I reminded her of a song, Dierks Bentley "Lot of Leaven Left to Do." I will not protest because she has every right to think this. I didn't date a ton in high school, but when I did it didn't last very long. It got too serious for me too quickly. I LOVED flirting so I didn't like being tied down. It maybe lasted two weeks sometimes three, but I just couldn't handle feeling like I was standing still. I didn't like the feeling of someone claiming that I was "theirs," well maybe for two weeks I did! Right around the two week mark I started panicking. I thought I really liked these boys, but then, I guess you could say, I got cold feet and would break it off.

The Beginnings of R and D

Life is crazy and we as individuals do not have all the answers. It seems like I hear parents always say, "I am still learning too, cut me some slack." Since I have become a parent, three and a half years ago, I have come to realize that I do not have the slightest idea what I am doing in life. I do not have all the answers, although my daughter does think that I can fix anything. It's so cute, if something breaks she says, "It's ok my mommy can fix it." I wish that that was the case in every situation. Wouldn't it be grand if when life crapped on us I (mommy) could clean it up or fix it? With all the trials in life one experiences, it would be awesome if I could waltz right into your life and say, "Presto, crap be gone or crap be fixed." Now that would be cool, right? Wrong, why would you want a hand out in this life? Isn't it your responsibility to figure it out or is it? We are all suppose to do our own R and D so that we can get the most out of our own lives, right? We are trying to see how much we can learn on our own or through others so that in the after life, we can surprise our Heavenly Father with, "Look what I can do" or "look what I know." Yes, no, I don't know. Wow I am just rambling now and not sure where I was trying to head with this post, but I guess that is why it is called "The Beginnings of R and D," I am still not sure what lies ahead. What I do know is that I want to experience life and the best way to do that is through my emotional expressions: happiness, sorrow, exhaustion, excitement, surprise, frustration... these and many other emotional expressions are my research and who I become from each of these different experiences will help me to develop into who life wants me to become! So I guess what I am trying to accomplish is telling my life experiences (research) and what I have learned so that I can help you in some way to keep moving forward and believing in yourself (development).
